Living in Tokyo ain’t easy. After a few months of loving it, I went from hating it in one afternoon (and then liking it again). I didn’t realize how much I missed New York, home and my old friends and haunts.
So it was comforting to know that Soledad O’Brien had followed me to Japan via CNN International. That smart, sexy and sociable lady helped me reconnect with the US. And when Bill Hemmer was finally shown the door, I got Miles too. Dr. Gupta, Chad Meyers, Carol Costello and even Ali Velshi were all great side dishes. What a team. As a viewer, you never felt that they were dumbing things down, and always felt in on the joke. And now CNN ends with the last laugh, a cruel joke.
Tonight (America’s morning) Soledad and Miles said goodbye with a class CNN’s top brass could only stroke to.
From this very loyal viewer in the land of food that could still be alive on your plate, I say goodbye. I hope your replacements fall flat on their generic, plastic faces. You will be missed.

When Bill Hemmer was replaced by acerbic Miles O’Brien I was upset, but stayed the course. Then Andy Sewar has disappeared into the blue, although his replacement, Ali is OK, but to let Soledad go! Oy! I’ll not miss Miles in the least and Roberts is great, but I cannot imagine a morning with my Soledad! Guess I’ll have to start watching CBS, NBC or ABC.

I was glad to see Soledad go. Her totally vacuous interview with the neighbor of that guy who kept that child hostage for 4 years in the parking lot of his apartment building was just the last embarrassment: “This is where you saw his truck? (she scurries to a spot). Is this where he was parked? This isn’t the actual truck, is it?; with each annoying comment interrupting the poor buffoon who was serving as her prop for her little self-absorbed soliloquy. Miles I will miss. Personally I haven’t forgiven CNN for firing Aaron Brown, or hiring Paula Zahn. That’s when CNN became about ratings and not about news. I will have to say that when stuff happens, that’s where I always turn because nobody does it better. Sorry about the diatribe; I will get my own dang blog….

I have watched American Morning since it began and before that I was watching Daybreak with Carol Costello. Of all the anchors that have come and gone, Miles and Soledad made the best team. They worked well together and made watching the news not quite so depressing. Soledad with her never ending smile and Miles with his little quips of humor just made my early morning a bit brighter. I don’t know what I am going to do, yet. I guess that since I like watching Lou Dobbs and The Situation room with Wolf and Jack, I will not quit watching CNN altogether, but another network may very well get my morning viewing time.

The Palmers
Our family was extremely disappointed to learn that Soledad and Miles were not on vacation, but had been dropped from CNN’s American Morning. We looked forward to watching them every day, and really loved Soledad’s interviewing skills and Miles’ interesting reports.
Best wishes to Soledad and Miiles on their careers! We hope to see them both in the future on other programs. We don’t care for the go-go booted replacement and will get our morning news fix elsewhere – we have dropped CNN’s American Morning from our schedules.

Melinda Doolittle, sing this song! « once in a lifetime
[...] Sunday, April 29th, 2007 in rants, random, music The buzz online is that Melinda Doolittle is on the verge of being voted off American Idol, an outcome that would be as incredible and unjust as Miles and Soledad getting the boot from CNN. [...]

Gone with the Wind
I am glad to see Soledad is gone. I am a little late, I tuned in last week, saw Kiran, tuned in again today and thought, hmmm…maybe this is permanent.
Soledad’s mouth was getting too big. I appreciate her passions, but she’s done enough on the desk over there. I will always remember her as the Harvard grad who poked around in the foul arena during the Katrina aftermath.
Soledad and Miles were great when they first got there, but it’s clear that they were BORED at the newsdesk.
Kiran is great and I like Roberts too. But so many anchors have come and gone since 9/11 that I’m not surprised. I missed Leon, and then found him on ABC in Washington DC. His sidekick, I forget her name, the skinny woman, I don’t know how she got to hang around as long as she did.
TJ Sanders is likely to replace that 9am (est) team, Tony and what’s her name.
it’s all about who’s cute, and who’s fresh with CNN.
Roberts is fresh and Kiran is cute.
At least for now.
